Greening the Globe: Shakespeare, Ecocriticism, and Education, 13.-14.11.2025
Conference for Teachers, Students, Theatre Practicioners and Shakespeare Enthusiasts
Nature, the environment, and ecology have always held a central position in Shakespeare’s works. In recent years, these topics have gained increasing significance, particularly with regard to climate change, natural disasters, and the healing power of nature and the environment, and are increasingly being incorporated into educational institutions and the theatre landscape. As part of the conference, we will take an interdisciplinary look at the subject, present current research approaches for teaching Shakespeare in (higher) education, and encourage interactive exchange with students, educators, and theatre practitioners. The conference will conclude with a performance of “Romeo and Juliet” at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg.
