Award Ceremony of the Shakespeare-Prize and Election of the Executive Board

Award Ceremony of the Shakespeare-Prize to Birgit Minichmayr and Election of the Executive Board of the German Shakespeare Society

The Shakespeare Prize of the German Shakespeare Foundation was awarded for the first time in the history of the German Shakespeare Society at a ceremony in the German National Theatre in Weimar. This year, it went to the actress and singer Birgit Minichmayr. In future, it will be awarded every two years to public figures who have rendered outstanding services to Shakespeare’s work and its dissemination.

The Laudatio was held by the artistic director of the Theatre Bochum, Johan Simons.

At the general meeting of the German Shakespeare Society, Prof. Dr. Claudia Olk handed over her office as President to Prof. Dr. Sybille Baumbach after three terms in office.

She has previously taught and researched at the Universities of Innsbruck, Mainz, Giessen and Stanford University. Publications on Shakespeare’s works include monographs on physiognomic readings in Shakespeare’s tragedies and aspects of fascination in Shakespeare’s works as well as works on sound worlds, laughter, sonnet arts and ‘theory of mind’ in his dramas.

Prof. Dr. Kirsten Sandrock was elected as the new Vice President.

Kirsten Sandrock is Professor of English Literature and Cultural Studies at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. She teaches and researches early modern literature and has been active in the Shakespeare Society for many years.
