Shakespeare translations by August Wilhelm Schlegel and the Tieck circle

I would like to draw your attention to the following conference. It will take place in Dresden from June 13 to 16, 2022:
The Shakespeare Translations of August Wilhelm Schlegel and the Tieck Circle. Context – History – Edition:

https://www.uni-bamberg.de/index.php?id=133304

The translation of all of William Shakespeare’s plays known as “Schlegel/Tieck” – begun in 1797 by August Wilhelm Schlegel and continued in the 1820s by Ludwig Tieck, his daughter Dorothea and Wolf Heinrich von Baudissin – has become a classic text of German literature. The conference aims to reassess these translations by examining their contexts: the conditions, theory and practice of translation, their significance within the early Romantic program and the concept of a “Romantic-poetic” translation. In addition, the differences in the methods of August Wilhelm Schlegel and the Tieck circle, and finally the intensive reception up to the present day will be presented and discussed; the question of how the “Schlegel/Tieck” can best be edited historically-critically today, which requirements must be taken into account and which digital processes must be used for such an urgently needed edition will also be addressed. A conference volume is planned.
