Shakespeare’s Green Worlds
The German Shakespeare Society cordially invites you to the 2016 Spring Conference, which will take place from April 22-24 in Bochum. To mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, it will be dedicated to the theme of “Shakespeare’s Green Worlds” and will examine the many metaphorical, rhetorical, botanical and poetic manifestations of ‘green worlds’, plants and gardens in Shakespeare’s work. It will once again offer a variety of events, including lectures, discussions, the Shakespeare & School Forum, the Shakespeare Seminar and, of course, current productions and film screenings; partners for this are the City of Bochum and the Ruhr University Bochum.
For the conference program, we were able to attract a number of leading experts for our topic. We would also like to highlight the performances of “King Lear” at the Theater Mühlheim an der Ruhr and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by RUB students, which will enrich our program. In addition, following a suggestion from the last general meeting, we have sought cooperation with Bochum cinemas, where current recordings of “As You Like It” from the National Theatre, London and “Hamlet” from the Barbican Theatre London will be shown on the occasion of our conference.
