April 23, 2014 marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of the German Shakespeare Society with Shakespeare’s 450th birthday. To mark this great occasion, we are inviting all members and friends to the Shakespeare anniversary in Weimar from April 24 to 27, 2014. Under the theme “Shakespeare Feiern – Celebrating Shakespeare” (Celebrating Shakespeare), we will be devoting ourselves to the great tradition of the festival culture that has long been organized by and with Shakespeare, as well as the current consequences that arise from this for our time, in performances, lectures, discussions and workshops.

The program includes a premiere by the Deutsches Nationaltheater, a guest performance by the Bremen Shakespeare Company and a big birthday party with music, a buffet and dancing. Panel discussions will be dedicated to the history of our company and the Shakespeare work of today’s directors and authors. At the ceremony on Sunday, April 27, the honorary presidency will be awarded to an international surprise guest. The Weimar meeting is part of a year-long series of events to mark the Shakespeare anniversary, which will conclude in November with our fall conference in Bochum.
